In a 1533 dictionary, \u015falvar are defined as \u201cchalzoni grandi oue a chammino si mettono le ueste\u201d and in 1611 as \u201cweite hosen w\u00fcr (!) frauen,\u201d wide trousers for women.<\/p>\n<p>The derivation is the Persian\u00a0<em>\u0161alw\u0101r<\/em>, \u201cinner breeches, drawers reaching to the feet; sailor\u2019s or traveller\u2019s trousers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;\u015ealvar&#8221; was not the generic word for trousers!
